Drake Passage Waves
The Drake Passage is where the Atlantic, Pacific and Southern Oceans meet, creating the Antarctic Circumpolar Current. Since there is no significant land mass in the world at the latitudes of the Drake Passage, a huge volume of water flows through this relatively narrow area (500 miles). When traveling to Antarctica by ship, you can experience either "The Drake Shake" (rough waters) or "The Drake Lake" (smooth sailing). It takes approximately 2-1/2 days to sail to Antarctica from Ushuaia, Argentina. It's all part of the journey to this magnificent place, and this photo shows the mighty waves en route.
